Deadline Looms: A Work in Progress

This one needs to be short. I have a ton of work to do. I’m not sure that I’m happy with the progress of either of these, but I like the city one better. I just find it more interesting. I do wonder if my reticence to work on the landscape is because it feels like everybody does watercolor landscapes in Vermont. I mean, what am I going to be able to contribute? Also, the fact that the washes look more green than blue may be another reason why I want to throw this out the window. I started it off with a yellow wash and was mystified by the green tint when I added blue cerulean to it.

Yeah….I taught color theory to high school students…..what of it? (Roll eye emoji.)

The blue-green spotty stuff is liquid frisket because this is a spring scene and the leaves are a light yellow-green. There is a ton of white space because the foreground, including the big tre on the right, is in silhouette and those washes only go in once I’m happy with the other washes.

They may never go in…..

This next one looks cockeyed to me, but perhaps if I take an edible, it’ll get better. It serves me right for painting at an angle. Tilt it 20 degrees and it’s perfect.

So much for this week’s witty repartee. Back to the studio to self-flagellate until Sunday, when it’s due.
