Kinda Treading Water

Painting of Llama Eye
Llama Eye

After a year of working on Rescued and a frantic two weeks working on a couple of projects to submit to the Vermont Watercolor Society’s juried spring show (I wasn’t selected, if you were wondering. It was an odd little painting so I’m not terribly surprised.) suddenly I find myself free of deadlines. I don’t really know what to do with myself.

This week, I’ve been traveling, training and dog sitting, so there hasn’t been a whole lot of productive art-time. I’m catching up on all the stuff that artists hate:

  • arguing with my website over navigation issues
  • pumping up my mailing list
  • staring at a landscape watercolor that I am less than pleased with
  • checking my social media and SEO to see how many views my stuff is getting. I don’t have to worry too much about inadvertently shocking an entire demographic of people. Last week’s blog post got 3 views.

So I’m going to keep this one short. The featured image in this blog is an archived one from graduate school (looong ago). This Llama had a deteriorating condition that eventually killed him, but his eyes really did turn that color blue. It was my first stab at gouache paint and after watching it destroy my expensive Windsor Newton Series 7 brushes, it was my last.

However, I’m thinking about giving the medium another go.

I’ll do my best to have something new for next week.

Thanks. It’s one of my favorite pieces.
