Confidence Building…

There was a reception for artists showing at the Jericho Town Hall a couple of Saturdays ago. I had no idea what to expect. Jericho is a charming Vermont town sporting a handful more than 5000 residents. The venue was a town hall. I don’t think of town halls as fantastic attractions for art aficionados so I didn’t really expect much. I brought my pack of business cards, a signup sheet for any enthusiasts and hoped for the best.

What a great reception! The town hall was packed with artwork and people. I noticed right away that my three pieces (posted below) were in prime spots (though almost everything in there could be considered a prime spot. It is a nice venue.) I met artists whom I’ve known by name but never by actual carbon-based organism; whose work I’ve admired over the years. I  jotted down all sorts of local contacts and resources. Everyone was so positive and eager for me to join their assorted group, be it gallery or artist organization. It was a tremendous boost to a confidence level that was starting to flag a bit. (Early March will do that to a person. It’s been a long, gloomy winter.) I’m hoping that some of the folks I met are reading this blog post and will keep in touch.

The next day, I was notified by the National Watercolor Society that my painting Waiting to Work was accepted into their member exhibition. They are encouraging me to submit to their open exhibition in April. (I am getting a whole lot of mileage out of that horse painting!) I guess this means that I should start charging more for my work. <Insert evil grin here.>

Waiting to Work

OK. That’s a lot of writing and tooting my own horn. Even I get sick of that. I’ll go back to more storytelling in next week’s adventure blog. In the meantime, mark your calendars because Rescued is due to be released on April 30th.

In the meantime, here’s a work in progress. Paul is my son and daughter-in-law’s rescued greyhound and influencer dog. (I recommend you follow him, @riskitallpaul on IG and TikTok. His story is worth the risk that the Chinese will spy on you.) I also have a dog and she is beautiful, but not nearly as much fun to draw/paint.
